CHRISTMAS MAILS
GENERAL DECREASE ON LAST YEAR’S FIGURES.
A study of the amount of mail despatched and received at Timaru during the Christmas period shows that postal officials were called upon to handle less than was the case last Christmas.
The appended table shows the number of bags despatched and received, but there is no way of estimating the number of letters posted or received as there are no facilities at the Timaru Post Office for counting mail. The only measurement possible is in terms of bags, and the average number of letters in a bag would have been the same this year as last year as they were full. •d
