TEMUKA

WATER CARNIVAL. On Thursday evening a water carnival was held in the Temuka Domain Baths. The carnival, which was arranged by Commandant Hawkins and Mr S. B. Reid, was in aid of the funds of the Salvation Army Bramwell Booth Boys’ Heme, and the attendance, while not being so large as the carnival warranted, should assist the funds to a fair extent. In the programme there was plenty to maintain interest, and the races were all productive of good finishes. Interspersed with the races were several novelty items, including fancy diving, trick diving, life saving, plate diving and water polo. An item that was well carried out, and which evoked hearty enthusiasm, was the display on the horizontal bar by the Home boys. The boys showed a surprising aptitude for the exercises, and each was accorded a round of applause. Some of the work done was really clever.

At an interval the Mayor (Mr A. W. Buzan) thanked the public for their attendance. He remarked that swimmers were taking part in the races merely fer the sake of the sport. He returned thanks, on behalf of the Beys’ Home, for the support given. Officials were as follows: —Referee, Mr A. W. Buzan; starter, Mr W. J. Keys; judges, Messrs A. N. Hancock, T. Paiki, J.
