CHAMPIONSHIP BOWLS

NEW ZEALAND TOURNEY In connection with the Rink Championship in the Dominion Tournament the teams will be divided into sections. Where eight games constitute section play, the teams to qualify for postsection play shall be:— 1. Ar:y team which wihs six or more games in its section. 2. Any team which, though it wins fewer than six games, is the winner of its section. 3. Any team which, though it wins fewer than six games, ties as one of the winners of its section. If section play consists of nine games, then the qualification clauses 1,2, and 3 given above, will, ipso facto, increase to seven wins. It is usual if eight games are played that 25 heads constitute the game, and that two games per day be played; if nine games then three games per day, each of 21 heads. Post-section play of rinks will be on the automatic two-life principle; winners play winners and losers play losers, but the Tournament Committee shall have power to play a winner against a loser if it considers such a course advisable. (This is really part i of an automatic draw.) A team on losing two games in post-section play drops out. The Pairs games this year will be played with three bowls instead of the usual four. Five games will be played in each section. Each section finds its winner, and these play off to find the green winners. The post-section games are then continued on the sudden death principle—one loss and out you go.

The Single Championship is played on the full two-life system. Each player after a second loss drops out. This is similar to our Singles Champion of Champion competition. Of course various time limits are used, but they are generally cf a reasonable length. We shall be pleased to hear of any combinations being made up for the New Zealand tourney, which starts in Wellington on January 9.
