MEAT EXFORTS
THE QUOTA SYSTEM. By Telegraph—Press Association WELLINGTON November 18. A question as to whether the quota system was going to be applied to New Zealand’s meat exports was placed on the order paper by Mr J. Connolly (Mid-Canterbury) yesterday. Mr Connolly drew attention to the news by cablegram saying that emergency limitations affecting Argentina, Australia, land New Zealand beyond the Ottawa Agreements would be reviewed before the end of December. He asked if the 10 per cent reduction in the Dominion’s meat exports for November and December would be allowed to increase during the remaining months of tne year, so that the right to export up to last year’s total might be given effect to. He also asked would the Minister of Agriculture take precautions to see that this Dominion’s rights were protected in accordance with the Ottawa Agreement. Mr Connolly said that while ing the advisability oi regulating shipments there was a feeling of uncertainty among pastoralists and others that the quota system might be applied to the Dominion to an extent detrimental to New Zealand interests, and people would welcome an assurance that the greatest care and vigilance were being exercised by the Government.
