OBITUARY
EDWARD J. HAYDON. By Telegraph—Press Association DUNEDIN. November 18. The deeth has occurred at Waipori Falls of Mr Edward J. Haydon, a member of a well-known Dunedin family. He had been employed there for a number of years by the City Corporation. Deceased was a veteran of two wars. He went to South Africa with the Second Contingent left for the 1 Great War with the Otago Mounted i Rifles Squadron oi t'r Main Bodv. He saw service on Gallipoii with the Otago Mounteds and later in France with the Otago Infantry, in which he gained commissioned rank.
SIR JAMES CRAWFORD MAXWELL. United Press Association— By Electric T el egraph—Copyright LONDON. November 17. Sir James Crawford Maxwell died at sea on the Oronsay, on which he embarked for a health tour on November 12. Sir James Crawford Maxwell, K.8.E., C.M.G.. M.A.. M. 8.. C.M.. M.D.. was born in Dundee in 1869. He was called to the Bar in 1911, but was Colonial Secretary on the Gold Coast since 1922. Prior to this appointment he was District Commissioner at Sierra Leone, First Class Resident, Nigeria, and Colonial Secretary. Sierra Leone. He was* educated at Edinburgh University.
H. W. HILTON. By Telegraph—Press Association DUNEDIN, November 18. The death occurred at Dunedin today of Herbert Warren Hilton, formerly a well-known officer of the Bank of New 7 Zealand.
