THE Y.M.C.A.
BOARD OF DIRECTORS. The monthly meeting of directors of the Y.M.C.A. was held in the Association rooms last evening, with Mr W. G. Irwin in the chair. There were also present—Messrs C. W. Don, H. Oram, H. C. Matheson, J. D. Fraser, D. G. Wilson, and the general secretary (Mr F. E. S. Long). Correspondence was received from the World's Alliance of Y.M.C.A.’s, in connection with the Week of Prayer.— It was decided to hold intercession meetings at 7 each evening during the week November 14th to 19th. Associations throughout the world would be meeting in intercession at the same time, and all members and friends of the Association would be invited to attend these meetings. The financial position of the Association was discussed at length. Appreciation was expressed of the support given to the work by the public of South Canterbury. It was felt that the work being carried out by the Association was a necessary one, and worthy of even more support, and citizens would be invited during this month to become subscribers to the boys’ work. It was reported that the annual boys’ camp would be held in January, and organisation of camp matters was now in hand. It would be necessary to obtain a range for the use of the camp mother in preparing the meals for the boys. The general secretary's report mentioned that the activities of the winter season were drawing to a close, after a very successful and busy season. The annual group and individual competitions were being carried out, and should finish during this month. The athletic and swimming sports would be held early in December. Mr F. H. Drewitt had promised to give a moving picture display of “Alpine Sports” at an early date. The members of the boys’ department would attend this display, with a number of unemployed boys at their guests. Mr Don complimented the staff of the Association on the amount of work undertaken and carried out so efficiently during the year. A great deal of attention had been given to the unemployed boy problem, both in catering for the boys in the matter of recreation each afternoon and in the finding of positions for them. The thanks of the Association were due to Mr A. Bradley and Mr J. Houston for their great help in the physical side of the programme, and to Mr F. Ellis, who acted as hon. pianist to the gymnasium classes.
