ANNUAL SHOW

Entries for the annual A. and P. Society’s Show at Waimate, to be held on Tuesday, November 15. will close with the secretary (Mr A. J. Hoskins), at 8 p.m. on Wednesday next.

WOMEN'S INSTITUTES. Waituna. The monthly meeting of the Waituna Women's Institute was held in Victoria Park, there being a large attendance of members. * A most enjoyable time was spent in inspecting the rock garden and borders, and an instructive talk on flowers was given by the Borough gardener (Mr A. White). The delegate (Mrs Grant), presented a full report on the recent conference held at Geraldine. The winner of the competition for plate of pikelets was Mrs Fagan, while Mrs Elder won the prize for re-cover-ing an old umbrella. It was agreed to pay the small sum of Id per year per member towards the upkeep of a boy at Flock House. As usual the market table did brisk business. The roll call for the month was “how to whitewash a ceiling.” Arrangements were made for entertaining members of the Mothers’ Union who are to be the guests of the Institute in November. On the motion of Mrs Friel. a hearty vote of thanks was passed to Mr White for his address. Afternoon tea brought an interesting afternoon to a close. Willowbridge. The monthly meeting of the Willowbridge Women’s Institute was held in the Willowbridge Hall on Wednesday last. Mrs Patrick (president). presiding over a good attendance of members. The meeting opened with the Institute Song. After correspondence had been attended to. the control of the meeting was handed over to the demonstrators of the afternoon. Tatting was the order of the day, and with Mrs W. Richmond and Misses Richmond, Curtis and Hollamby as teachers, everyone was soon learning the intricate stitch. Afternoon tea was served, after which followed a short programme of community singing, Miss M. Hollamby acting as pianiste.

Competitions for the afternoon resulted as follows:—Bowl of Flowers— Mrs Colville 1. Mrs Fletcher 2, Miss Curtis 3. Bottle of Preserves—Mrs Patrick 1, Mrs W. Richmond 2, Mrs Fletcher 3. specimen Bloom—Mrs Moore 1, Mrs Fletcher 2. Mrs Murray

The hostesses were Mesdames Murray and Moore and Misses Moore and McGowan. A hearty vote of thanks was passed to the demonstrators, and the meeting closed with the singing of the National Anthem.
