RIFLE SHOOTING
TIMARU DEFENCE RIFLE CLUB. Yesterday the Timaru Defence Rifle Club held three ten-shot matches. There were also two aggregates, one for handicap men. and the other off the rifle. The day came in wet, but as it wore on. the weather became better, and the afternoon was quite a good shooting day. Besides the three matches, there were also several sweepstakes. At 300, W. L. Johnston was the top scorer, with 45, his board reading 5435554554—45. At 500. W. L. Johnston was again on top with 43—5455515 555 48. The next best were E. W. Brehaut. W. E. Jones and H. D. Roberts, each getting 45. At 600, C. H. Johnson topped the score with 47, a very good shoot. His board read—--3455555555—47. E. W. Brehaut was next with 46—5554453555—46. H. D. Roberts, a first year shot, got 45, a very creditable score for a young shot. The following were the scores for the day:— No. 1 Match—lo Shots at 300.
