NEW OIL ENGINE,
A new type of oil engine for which great economy in operation is claimed has been introduced in the United States. It is of the four-cylinder type, and is capable of developing 118b.h.p. at 2300 r.p.m. Its chief feature is that the fuel is delivered to the injectors at low pressure and is there pre-heated, with the result that it enters the combustion chamber in a gaseous state instead of in the form of a jet of liquid. Some idea of the comparatively small amount of fuel that is required to operate an engine of the new type may be gained from the fact that in the United States a motor car equipped with one, completed a 500-mile course at an average speed of 86 m.p.h. without having to stop once in order to refueL-
If a windscreen has been cleaned with an oily leather or duster, smeary patches are apt to be formed on it in the rain when the wiper is working. Rubbing with a clean leather will not always remove the oil, but a rag damped with methylated spirit will be found most effective. It is a good plan also to wipe the squeegee blade, because oil on the rubber will be spread on the glass as the blade passes from side to side.
