ERYSIPELAS.

Erysipelas is caused by a particularorganism which gets into the skin usually through a small scratch. The face is generally affected. Sufferers will notice that the centre of the rash is paler than the edges. It is from theie edges that the disease spreads. There is generally a rise of temperature. with considerable swelling of the affected area and round it, and there is malaise. Recurrences of the condition are common. Keep the patient in bed and apply tincture of iodine to the unaffected skin, about an inch beyond the red margin. This helps to prevent the rash spreading. Local applications of lead and opium lotion are of great value. Soak a piece of lint in the lotion and apply it wet. A good torAe, plenty of food and fresh air are essential.
