Another violent earthquake completed the ruin of houses in the CHalcidice region. The victims included some inhabitants sheltering in houses which the previous earthquake partially ruined. One fissure created is four miles long and two yards wide. The sea encroached on the land in many places. INHABITANTS TERRIFIED. SUBMERGENCE OF PENINSULAR FEARED. The inhabitants are terrified owing to the rumours that the whole Chalcidice peninsular is likely to sink. Geologists are trying to calm thenfears. Religious services are being held day and night in the open air. The severest shock to-day heaped the earth in the villages 200 ft. high, the sulphuric fumes and a dust cloud in the atmosphere rendering breathingdifficult.

With ’quakes continuing and debris falling around, British Bluejackets are performing gallant rescue work. They are demolishing the wreckage and releasing the injured to whom the Admirals are personally tending. The popudace has been deeply impressed by British valour. It is feared that many imprisoned in the ruins are doomed. There was a panic at Salonika, where fifty buildings were damaged. The crowds leaving to find safer quarters are outnumbered by streams of incoming refugees, who report that Chaleidice is the scene of appalling desolation.
