United Press Association —By Electric Telegraph—Copyright (Received Sept. 28, 7.30 p.m.) SYDNEY, Sept. 28
Three well-known city men, Messrs W. J. Curtis, K.C., Hugh D, Mclntosh and E. Covell, were charged to-day on the information of Mr A. J. Parsons, liquidator of Rickards Tivoli Theatres, with having, while directors of the Tivoli Company, misapplied a cheque for £13,570, also with conspiring to deal fraudulently with the theatre property. The Magistrate, after a lengthy hearing, acquitted and discharged the three defendants.
Tire Magistrate said that although single transactions might be suspicious, he did not consider fraud had been made out; therefore there was no case to answer.
Further minor charges were also dismissed.
Mr Maughan, KC„ who conducted the prosecution, said the case was a tragic one for him, since a leading fellow barrister and friend happened to be one of the defendants.
