TOWN BOARD. The first meeting of the new Town Board was held at the Board's Office on Tuesday night. Present—Commissioners Maze. Kellih r, Roberts, Dossatt, Halstead. Taylor and Davison. It was proposed by Commissioner Roberts, and seconded by Commissioner Kelliher. “That Commissioner M. F. Maze be re-elected chairman.” The motion was carried unanimously. All Commissioners acknowledged the welcome. The Health Officer reported that no j cases of infectious disease had been ! investigated in the Town Board district during the period ending August 31st. Six visits to habitations had been carried out. The report was adopted. The Public Works Department forwarded a lengthy schedule of wages, which would be subscribable at the stated rates only, when used on Main Highways.—The chairman commented | that the rates were low. Their own j man received a higher rate. ! The monthly report of the road and ! sanitary man was read and adopted. The Works Commissioner was direct- ; ed to review and report on the sanitary j trios undertaken Regarding a proposed reduction in j emit ary charges, the clerk gave a review of the situation, extending over the past year. £B3 was outstanding in fees. Commissioner Roberts said that sanitary charges were no doubt the burning Question in the township. Commissioner Dossett suggested a discount on prompt payments. Commissioner Kelliher favoured an all round reduction, which would benefit everybody—not only those who were in a good position to pay. i After considerable discussion, it was | agreed to make a reduction amounting i to approximately £3O per year in the j Board’s revenue. Commissioner Kelliher, on behalf of Mr J. Murphy, asked if, the Board would give a donation towards the cost of river protective works, which were bring carried out above the townchip. but in the Levels County area. If the river broke through, the township would have extensive damage done to it. It was moved by Commissioner Halstead, and seconded by Commissioner Davison, that two coils of wire be donated.—Carried. The following committees were set up:—Works: Commissioners, Maze, Kelliher and Dossett; Hall: Commissioners Taylor, Davison and Halstead; Finance: Commissioners Roberts, Maze and Kelliher. Accounts amounting to £154/15/1 were passed for payment. DOMAIN BOARD. Sitting as a Domain Board, the same members were present. The Department of Lands and Survey made further inquiries as to proposed reduction to be granted to the lessee.—The clerk to attend to the matter. Mr Roberts was deputed to procure further trees. The following Domain Works Committee was appointed:—Messrs Roberts and Halstead. A programme of work was drafted. Sitting as a Cemetery Board, routine business was transacted. Messrs Kelliher, Taylor and the chairman were appointed as a supervision committee. MINIATURE RIFLE CLUB, The final shoot of the season was fired on Monday evening, when Miss Wall’s trophy for non-prize winners was won by A. Waugh. M. Patrick’s trophy for mcxst consecutive bulls went to G. Henderson with 17, W. T. Taylor being second with 10. R. Mcllwrick’s trophy for best possible registered during the season was won by W. T. Taylor, with M. Patrick next. The Bowman Weekly Button was won by C. Thoreau, the only member to hold it twice during the season. G. Henderson takes the trophy for most possibles with W. T. Taylor second. They made 7 and 6 respectively. W. T. Taylor takes the Wilson Gold Bullet for the highest score off the rifle each night with three wins. G. Henderson. H. Roberts, M. Patrick each had two wins. This concluded an interesting and successful season, and a hearty vote of thanks was accorded the “Timaru Herald” for publication of the Club’s reports. “ Timaru Challenge Shield.” Glen-iti journeyed to Pleasant Point on Monday for a challenge shoot, but were defeated by three points. Dr. P. B. Benham welcomed the Glen-iti team and congratulated J. Hull on the only possible recorded. Three cheers were given for the visitors. Mr W. S. Curr, on behalf of Glen-iti. thanked the Point Club for the shoot, and their hospitality, and called for three cheers for the Point team. The following were the scores:— Pleasant Point.—W. T. Taylor 69., G. Henderson 69, R. Mcllwrick 69, J. Stevenson 69, A. Waugh 68, K. Hammend 68. M. Patrick 67. F. B. Wilson 66. C. Thoreau 66, H. Roberts 63; total G 74.
