THE WHEAT DUTIES
MINISTER TO VISIT TIMARU. Ml' T. D. Burnet, M.P-. has arranged with the Minister of Agriculture (Hon. C E McMilaln) to visit Timaru on Saturday, Bth October, to address a public meeting of "heat-growers on the wheat problem. The Minister desires the biggest meeting possible. Mr Burnett will accompany him, and has suggested that representatives from North Otago, and Mid-Canterbury be invited. It is only possible for the Minister to address one meeting, and that at a week-end.
“I am in favour of taking off the wheat duties,” stated the Hon. C. E. Macmillan, Minister of Agriculture, to the Waikato Times" representative, stated a Press Association message from Hamilton last month. “The import of fowl wheat from Australia, which has been decided upon, will result in a better price and better quality wheat for the poultry Indus ry, he said, adding at the same time I must say it is slightly difficult tc( reconcile the desire to capital invested in an Auckland fre-z ing firm, and refuse the same t° Canterbury capital invested “ wl *e lands.
