INTER-CLUB MEETING ABANDONED. I (Special to " The Herald.") THE HERMITAGE. August 27. Yesterday’s break in the weather developed to-day into a strong gale at Ball Hut, with steady rain, which continued all day. Ski-ing was impossible, and the South Island inter-club sports meeting j was abandoned, the down-hill and rei lay and jump events not being held. I The meeting resulted in a good win I lor the Tasman Ski-Club. The aggregate points were as follows: I Tasman Ski Club 200 i Canterbury Winter Sports Club 157.4 Christchurch Ski Club 160.22 Ac-rangi (one event) 82.59 The majority of the competitors returned to the Hermitage this evening, but will the Aorangi championship meeting at Ball Hut on Monday. HEAVY SNOW AT MT. COOK AORANGI MEETING POSTPONED. (Special to “ The Herald.") THE HERMITAGE, August 23. I Rain gave place to snow at the Heri mitage on Saturday night, when a j heavy fall commenced and continued ! for the greater part of Sunday. Late I this afternoon, nearly four inches had ! fallen at the Hermitage, and and it is i expected that it will have been heavier at Ball Hut, The snow extends over ; i the Mackenzie Country from Faii’lie, i where it is reported that the snow is ■ two inches deep, but the heaviest fall ' appears to be at Tekapo, five inches being reported there this morning. The weather cleared slightly late in the afternoon, and a large party indulged in ski-ing on the slopes in the vicinity of the Hermitage. The Aorangi championship meeting, which was to have been held at Ball Hut on Monday, is being postponed till Tuesday to allow the snow to improve. It is expected that accommodation | at the hut will be fully taxed to-mor--1 row, when the main body of competitors will leave. ' p. H. Mitchell (Australia), who had recently been attending the championj ships at Tongariro, is expected to arrive at the Hermitage to-night to comi pete at the Aorangi meeting. The ' championship is expected to provide ski-ing of a high standard.
