Mr P. B. Foote returned to Timaru from Wellington by Saturday’s express. Mr J. Rollo Sharp, of Messrs Dalgety and Co., arrived in Timaru from Christchurch on Saturday. Sir Henry Wigram. who has been seriously ill, is reported to have shown some improvement. Sir Henry Buckleton, general managed of the Bank of New Zealand, left Auckland by the Maunganui on a trip to Australia. Mr Erling Ziesler, of Dalgety and Coy., Ltd., Timaru, has been advised of his promotion to the management of the Company’s business ip Wanganui. A cabled message from London states that Mr H. W. Thompson, of Wellington, was successful in part II of the Fellowship Institute actuaries examination. Mr S. Beckingsale, of Wellington, was successful in Part IV. A suggestion that their Excellencies the Governor-General and Lady Bledisloe should visit the Chatham Islands, leaving by the Government steamer Matai on Tuesday, has been made to his Excellency by Mr J. McCombs, M.P., in whose electorate the islands are included. A cable message from Montreal reports that Dr. Craig, New Zealand Comptroller of Customs, with Mrs and Miss Craig sailed on Saturday by the Canadian Challenger for New Zealand. The Standing Committee of the General Synod of the Church of England, confirmed the appointment of the Rev. W. H. Baddeley, vicar of South Bank, Yorkshire, as Bishop of Melanesia, in succession to Bishop F. M. Molyneux.
