On WMnesdav evening in the W.E.A. room, George Street, Mr A. M. Pater;un will lecture on “Can Major Douglas's Proposals Restore Prosperity?” The public are invited to attend, and '.here will be a collection to defray expenses.
It has been observed by the officials of the Railway Department that numbers of people who arrive at Auckland early in the morning by the express from the south do not seem to be aware of the “creature comforts” available at the big station. An advertisement in this issue gives a reminder that the modern provision for the public includes bath-rooms, hairdressing saloon, refreshment room, fruit shop, and bookstall, which are controlled by the Railway Refreshment Branch. The Department feels that if these facilities i were more generally known to the travelling public they would be availed of to a much greater extent. ....
A meeting of the sub-committee of of Women’s Institute depot was held on Wednesday last when final arrangements were made for the official opening of the depot. The following rule was adopted:—“That no member is to have at the depot goods to the value of more than £5 at one time.”
