On Friday night the St. Andrews Dramatic Club staged the comedydrama, “The Last of Mrs Cheney,” at Olympia Hall, the performance being in aid of the funds of the Waimate Benevolent Society. Owing to the cold weather, the attendance was not large, but those present were repaid for any discomfort by the manner in which the artists interpreted the characters. The staging and effects were excellently carried out, and the reputation of the Club was enhanced to such an extent as should ensure them a hearty reception at any future appearance. Incidental music was supplied by Messrs C. Parry and T. Ottley.

After the performance, the members of the Club, with the executive and friends of the Ladies’ Benevolent Society, were the guests io supper of the Mayor and Mayoress (Mr and Mrs G. Dash). At the conclusion of supper, the Mayor paid a high compliment to the company on their excellent performance and the beauty and harmony of the costuming.

Mr G. A. Manchester, on behalf of the Benevolent Society, thanked the performers for again rendering such valuable assistance, and tendered sincere thanks to the host and hostess for their hospitality. The Mayoress was the recipient of a handsome bouquet. Prior to their departure, the visitors gave three hearty cheers for their Waimate friends.
