MAORI BY-ELECTION
MR W. MIHAKA RETIRES. “Sincerely believing that it is in the absolute best interests of the South Island Maoris to give their unhampered support to the present Coalition GoveAiment, I have decided to withdraw from the forthcoming contest for the Southern Maori seat, in favour of the official Coalition nominee, Mr Parata. In doing so, I earnestly urge all those who have pledged me their support to transfer that support unreservedly to Mr Parata.” So stated Mr Mihaka to the “Herald” representative yesterday, when intimating that he was going to Southland this morning to assist the campaign of Mr Parata.
