THE WEATHER. The weather was showery and cold throughout Saturday, but improved yesterday when, although there was no rain, conditions were dull and overcast, with intervals of sunshine. RUGBY. In competition football matches played on Saturday, Geraldine Club teams secured one win, one drawn game, and one loss. After an interesting and well-con-tested game, the junior grade team were defeated by 14 points to nil. in a match played on the Temuka No. 1 ground. In the fourth grade match played on the Geraldine Oval, the Geraldine team drew with Star, the scores being six all. The ground was very muddy, and the game was played largely between the forwards, who were evenly matched. However, the game was always interesting and the final score was a good indication of the play. For the home team. C. Wilson kicked a penalty goal, and P. Brenton scored a try, while Angland scored a try for Star and Bracefield kicked a penalty goal. The fifth grade B. team secured their first win of the season by defeating High School B. in a match played on School Park, by 8 points to 3. For the winners, C. Davie and D. Lewis scored tries, G. Paterson converting one. RIFLE SHOOTING. C. Wilson was the winner of the trophy at the Geraldine Miniature Rifle Club’s weekly shoot on Friday evening. The fallowing scores were registered: W. S. Stonehouse, S. Gordon 76. C. Wilson 74, A. Blair 74, S. Morgan 73, L. H. Wood 72. T. Ragg 71, E. Wood 69, J. Patrick 68. R. S. Stonehouse 67, R. Hayes 68, C. Stringer 66, «*. S. Lorimer 66, M. Hayes 65. and F. Neale 65. MECCANO CLUB SOCIAL. The Geraldine Meccano Club held an enjoyable social evening in the club rooms on Friday. The principal feature of the display was a large electrically-driven model of an English locomotive, made by a Timaru boy. The attention to detail, and the hundreds of parts in the model, which was about three feet long, aroused* much admiration. , A Temuka boy exhibited a large working model cf a crane. The Club’s rolling stock, comprising steam and mechanical locomotives, was exhibited. The Mayor (Mr B. R. Macdonald) expressed appreciation of the work the Club was doing in the interests of the boys of the town. It was a useful and delightful hobby, and the Club was to be congratulated on its enthusiasm. The proceedings concluded with supper provided by the Club members. PERSONAL. Mr R. J. Cornwell, of the State Forestry Department, has received notice of transfer from Geraldine to Invercargill. Mr W. J. Hogan, of the Geraldine Post Office staff, commenced annual leave on Saturday. Mr S. Butcher resumed duty at the Pest Office on Saturday after leave. NOTES. The Fire Brigade will hold their annual ball in the Town Hall on July 28th.
