APPLICATIONS IN AUCKLAND. By Telegraph—Press, Association AUCKLAND, July 9. Although the Unemployment Board’s building subsidy offer has been open only oi.u week, nearly 100 applications Jiave been received from those desiring to take advantage of ! it. This is regarded as a most promising start, and there is a good prospect that much work which has long been postponed would now be put in hand, giving employment to many tradesmen. WORKS APPROVED. By Telegraph—Press Association WELLINGTON. July 9. The chairman of the committee of the allied building industries of Wellington (Mr Seed) states that his committee has received word from the Unemployment Board that several works have already been approved by the Minister of Employment for building operations under the employment subsidy scheme, and that work in some instances has actually been already started. He states that very wide and keen interest is being manifested in the scheme generally, and the indications aiu that it will prove an incentive to a definite improvement in building activity, and will be the means of absorbing considerable numbers of tradesmen and operatives from tile ranks of the unemployed.
