At Miami Beach (Florida), Gar Wood to-day set the mark of 110.785 miles per hour in Miss America IX, to claim the world's speed boat record. On the second run Wood made 110.49 miles southward over a measured nautical mile course on Indian Creek. Later on the north-bound run, he made 111.08 miles per hour, the elapse time being 37.525ec. Sweeping was continued in an area of about a mile square, though it is too rough for divers to descend.
