LYTTELTON SHOP GUTTED. By Telegraph—Press Association CHRISTCHURCH. Jan. 26. When a large wooden shop, with the dwelling attached, was almost destroyed by fire at Lyttelton ear.y this morning, the tenant. Mr G. Cording, and his wife, were awakened by smoke, which was suffocating them. With difficulty they gained exit through a window in the upper storey, leading on to a corrugated iron verandah. and then slid down the verandah posts. They lost a good deal of furniture. The Brigade had a hard fight to prevent the flames spreading to other juildings.
