An entry of about 60 head of medium 1 quality fat cattle met with a slacker demand at Temulia yards yesterday. The auctioneers started the sale on time, but unfortunately, some of the butchers were late, and the first few • pens did not met with strong competition. However the sale improved later, although prices were not on a par with late sales. Best steers made to £7; fat heifers, £3/-/- to £4/15/-; best fat cows to £6/5/-; medium cows £3/-/- to £4/10/-; 1 inferior cows. 30/- to £2/-/-; runners, £2/-/- to £3/5/-; vealers to 30/-. ) In the store pens, only a small num-
ber were forward. Empty cows made (from 11/- to 20/-; calves to 8/6. Low I condition cows in profit brought up to £2/10/-. The fat sheep sale improved by about 2/- per head. Only two pens of fat wethers were forward, these selling at from 13/6 to 16/3. The fat ewe sale was a spirited one, and the I iarge yarding changed hands with dis- | patch. Best butchers' ewes fetched up j to 11/2; medium ewes. 8/6 to 10/-; ex- | porters’ ewes, 4/- to 7/6. I The store sheep sale was not a • buoyant one, sales being effected at ! low values. Medium 2-tooth wethers 1 sold up to 8 6; s.m. half-bred ewes, at 3/-; 6 and 8-tooth half-bred ewes at i 5/3. ! A splendid line of of 160 Crossbred rape lambs was passed at 7/-. i : The number of pigs yarded was • ; smaller than usual, and prices were | down by about 2/6 a head on those at i last sale. Weaners made from 9/- to I 14/-; and good stores were selling round about 20/- per head. ) { Three young draughts were offered after the sheep sale, and two good four-year-old geldings changed har.ds at £29 and £25. About 350 fat lambs were keenly bid 3 for by exporters, the best price of the day being 15 8.
