TELEPHONE IMPROVEMENT.
WONDERS OF TELEPRINTER SYSTEM. EARLY INTRODUCTION IN ENGLAND PROMISED. United Press Association —By Electric Telegraph—Copyright (Received January 24, 5.5 p.m.) LONDON, January 24. Sir Kingsley Wood, PostmasterGeneral, speaking this evening at Birmingham, said that the Post Office hoped to introduce, in a few months, a remarkable new service, which was the result of the work and skill of British inventors, known as teleprinter exchange service. The new method would enable a message to be typewritten automatically between the office of any two telephone subscribers, at any distance from one another, who had the teleprinter machine installed. A typist in one office would type a message, and it would be printed simultaneously on both machines, so that both subscribers would have a complete typed record of all communications exchanged. The machines would provide a safeguard against wrong connections. He hoped the service would be available to London subscribers by the spring, and to subscribers in the provinces by the summer.
