CONGREGATIONAL CHURCH.

SALE OF WORK. Thi . ' rale of work of the Congregational Church Guild was held yesterday afternoon and evening, and was largely attended. The hall at the rear of the church was tastefully decorated, and contained a number of stalls which were heavily laden with goods, the work of the lady members. The bazaar was officially declared open by the Mayor (Mr T. W. Satterhwaite), who said that all sympathised with the objects for which the bazaar was organised, and appreciated the efforts of the ladies who had worked so hard to present the large collection of goods which were to be sold. He hoped this work would be recognised, and that the result aimed at would be achieved. Dealing with the work of the Church, the Mayor said that sometimes this appeared dreary and hard, but they had to remember that in connection with functions such as this, they were working for a very good cause. He had great pleasure in declaring the bazaar open, and his earnest wish was that the results would exceed their highest expectations. At the conclusion of the address, Joyce Bowden presented the Mayoress (Mrs Satterth waite), with a beautiful bouuet of crimson anemones and maidenhair fern, and Muriel Cumberbeach presented the Mayor with a buttonhole. Both compliments were gracefully acknowledged. The stall holders were as under:— Cakes. Mesdames Shaw, Cumberbeach, and Higgins; tea rooms, Mesdames Alexander and C. Hall; sweets and icecream, Mrs Corbett and Miss Gladys Hill; work, Mesdames Parker, Tuck, Scully, Taylor, and D. Davis senr.; produce, Mesdames Willmott and Arscott; men’s stall, Messrs Higgins and Provan; fruit and salad room, Mesdames Provan and A. Hill and Miss Millar; Christmas tree. Miss Mabel Tubb, assisted by the members of the Young People’s Club.
