FAIRLIE.

SPRING FLOWER SHOW. The annual Spring Flower Show in aid of the funds of St. Stephen’s Church, was held in Aorangi Hall on Wednesday afternoon and evening. The weather was fine, and the attendance of the public was good. An energetic committee headed by Messrs G. W. Talbot and Wm. Scott as joint secretaries had first-class arrangements made. Entries in some of the classes were not quite up to the usual standard, but this could be accounted for by the spell of very windy weather lately, and the fact that many of the spring flowers are past their best. The flowers were well staged, and the effect was very pleasing. The judge noted that the blooms were not as large as usual, owing no doubt to the very dry winter, but the colouring was very fine. The judges wei^e: —Flowers, Mr Geo. Knowles (Timaru); cookery and preserves, Mr A. Edward; sweets and fancy work, Mrs A. Hall.
