MAGISTRATE’S COURT.

TIMARU, OCTOBER 15, 1931. (Before Mr O. R. Orr-Walker, RMJ Dangerous Driving. The charge preferred against William Jackson Black was that of driving a motor-car in King Street in a manner dangerous to the public. The Borough Traffic Inspector (Mr C. Newcome) said that on October 2 he saw defendant driving along King Street at a speed of between 40 and 45 miles an hour. He gave defendant a signal to stop, but he went about five chains before doing so. He swerved to pass another car, and in doing so the car tilted over on two wheels. Defendant was fined £3 and 13/coets. Unregistered Lorry. Jasper West Comyns was charged with operating a motor-lorry which had not been registered under the heavy traffic regulations. Defendant, who did not appear, was fined £3 and 12/- costs. Old Number Plates. A plea of guilty was entered by Timaru Motors Ltd. to a charge of permitting the use of an unregistered motor car. Inspector Newcome said that the defendant company had used a car in Le Oren Street with last year’s number plates attached. The explanation was that, through an oversight, the old numbers had not been removed. The Magistrate said that apparently it was a case of oversight. There was nothing sinister about the offence. Defendant company would be ordered to pay costs 10/-. No License. A fine of 10/- and costs was imposed on Albert Edward Vincent for driving a motor ear without being in possession of a driver's license.
