COMMITTED FOR TRIAL. By Tsle£raph—Press Association CHRISTCHURCH, September 1. Before the Magistrate (Mr E. D. Mosley) Ernest Couper Smith (45), company manager, pleaded not guilty to a charge of stealing goods valued at £968, the property of Maling and Company. Accused was committed for trial. Bail was allowed in £SOO and one surety of £SOO. Police witnesses alleged that while accused was managing a department for Maling and Co., he sent goods to a business started by himself in Ashburton. GAOL-BREAKER SENTENCED. By Telegraph—Press Association CHRISTCHURCH, September 1. For escaping from the Paparua Prison on August 26, William Albert Harrington, who was arrested six hours later, was sentenced to a further term of six months' imprisonment, by the Magistrate (Mr E. D. Mosley), to b served at the expiration of his present sentence, imposed for attempted rape at Dunedin.
