RIFLE SHOOTING.
THE CHALLENGE SHIELD. PAREORA V. TIMARU. Last night the Pareora Miniature Rifle Club made a second attempt to win the Timaru Challenge Shield. The match was fired at Pareora. Timaru (holders) started well, and kept the lead all the way, finishing with 683 against 668 for Pareora. The ClubS Held a 5-man B. teams’ match, and this also resulted In a win for Timaru by 336 against 328. There were four possibles put on during the evening, by J. Stevenson, J. Murphy, W. Malcolm and C. Blackwood. At the finish of the shoot the home team entertained the visitors to supper. Mr Cook, president of Pareora, extended a hearty welcome to the Timaru men. He said they had been beaten again, but had to congratulate the ’Timaru men on their fine shooting. He called for cheers for the winners of the Shield. Mr Duncan suitably replied on behalf of the Timaru Club, and thanked the Pareora Club for the good night. The scores were as follows: Pareora. —J. Douglas 69, J. Bennett 69. W. Skudder 68. H.
