THE WARE CASE.

PRESENTATION OF FOUR ACT DRAMA. PROCEEDS FOR “THE HERALD” SHILLING FUND. Whilst a liberal response has been j made by the public of Timaru to the j appeals which have been made for funds to. assist the Central Relief | Society in its work among the less 1 fortunate members of the community, so great a demand has been made on I the resources of the Society that funds are urgently needed to permit of assistance being continued during the remaining weeks of winter. To assist this fund the St. Andrews Dramatic Club has very generously offered to present George Pleydell's famous four-act drama “The Ware Case,” in the Scottish Hall on Wednesday night. The performance, which will be given under the patronage of : the Mayor (Mr T. W. Satterthwaitei, j and Timaru Borough Council, the President of the Central Relief Society (Mr B I. Blodorn) and the President >of the South Canterbury Drama League (Dr W. H. Unwin) is in aid of j “The Herald” shilling fund, for the j relief of distress. j In recent presentations of “The i Ware Case” in both St. Andrews and I Waimate for charitable purposes, the 1 St. Andrews players gained for themselves high praise for the able manner i in which they presented a play full of j intriguing situations, and one which | develops a strong plot, one full of interest and of more than passing merit. Following on their Waimate performI ance, the Club received a letter from i the Mayor of Waimate commending j them on their efforts, and stating that the play was presented in a manner which held the absorbed attention of the audience, which payed them the sincere compliment of intense interest throughout. “The Ware Case” is a well known ■ and popular drama in England, and it | gained most of its popularity by reai son of its intensely interesting story. ! There are four scenes, but each Is really a playette in itself, a climaxdeveloping in each instance. The opeui ing scene is. laid in the library of Sir Hubert Ware’s country residence in Middlesex. Sir Hubert was considered ; a hopeless proposition matrimonially until he met Miss Magdalen Ede. After ! his marriage Sir Hubert continued to go 1 the pace, and within a few months his ! affairs were on the brink of ruin. Lady Ware had a brother who, on attaining ! his majority, inherited a vast fortune. ; Eustace is drowned while bathing, and ] circumstances surrounding the acci- ! dent lead to a coroner's verdict of wili ful murder. Suspicion fastens on Sir ; Hubert, who is arrested, and in the i concluding act there is a sensational development which brings to a climax the intense interest created during tne progress of the play, i In the presentation of the play on Wednesday night, the members of the St. Andrews Drama Club will have the benefit of recently improved stage facilities, available at the Scottish Hall, while music incidental to the play will be provided by an orchestra under the conductorship of Mr Donald Parkin. Popular prices are to be charged, and the box plan will open to-morrow for reserves.
