A sitting of the Arbitration Court in Timaru has been fixed for July 14th, commencing at 10 a.m. The Waimairi County Council (North Canterbury), has decided to make an average reduction in rates of 2 per cent. Advice has been received that the Opawa, with the City of Kimberley in tow, is meeting with fine weather, and making eight knots an hour. She expects to reach Auckland on Tuesday evening. The level of Lake Coleridge has been keeping comparatively steady in the past few weeks. Yesterday’s reading showed that the level of the water was 1668.15 ft. against 1668.325 ft last week. A year ago the level was 1664.65 ft, and it continued to fall fairly rapidly until the economy measures were introduced late in August.
