POWER BOARD.
MONTHLY MEETING. The monthly meeting of the South Canterbury Electric Power Board was held yesterday. Present.—Messrs J. Kennedy (chairman), G. Saunders, J. C. South, W. Hayman. A. N. Oakey, H. J. Mathers, W. E. Mills, B. R. Macdonald, G. Dash. C. E. Kerr, C. J. Talbot and W. Angland. Chairman’s Statement. In his monthly statement the chairman congratulated the Timaru Borough members upon their re-elect-ion, which indicated that the policy they had followed had the cordial approval of the ratepayers whom they represented. Mr Kennedy said that on the 11th instant, he made a tour of the district and inspected the proposed lay-out for the installation of a bye-pass valve in the pipe line at Fairiie, the recently completed alterations at Pleasant Point, also Mr McCormack’s extension at Waituna. which he authorised for construction during the month. While in the Waimate district he took the opportunity of investigating the matter of an advances account that had been in dispute for some considerable time. This matter had been before the Finance Committee on several occasions. and had been finally dealt with that day. With regard to the Board's area accounts, the floating capital charges and cost of current etc., would be allocated during the month, and submitted to the Finance Committee at its next meeting for approval. The engineer-secretary was presenting a particularly interesting report on the Board’s activities exclusive of Timaru Borough for the past year, and in reviewing same he felt that the Board would agree that the period had been one of steady progress. The financial position although not strong and entrenched, had what was second only to this—a vitality which he was satisfied would respond in due measure to the capital expended. Messrs Oakey and Mathers acknowledged the chairman’s congratulations on their election, both stating that they would do all within their power to further the interests of the community. Mr Dash congratulated Mr Mathers on is return to the Board stating that Mr Mathers was a gentleman for whom he had great respect. He said he was pleased to see Mr Oakey with them again, and complimented him on topping the poll. General. It was agreed to purchase a new Ford sedan car with a body built locally at a cost of £225. Notice of Motion. Mr Macdonald gave notice of motioh for next meeting as follows:—“That salaries paid by the Board be reduced as follows: —Above £SOO, 10 per cent.; £3OO to £SOO, 5 per cent., £2OO to £3OO 2k per cent. Annual Meeting. In moving that Mr Kennedy be reelected chairman, Mr Macdonald said he considered that as a younger member of the Board he could not find a better man. The motion was seconded by Mr Saunders, who paid a compliment to Mr Kennedy’s valuable service. Mr Angland made eulogistic reference to the good work accomplished by Mr Kennedy, and he also congratulated Mr Morrison on his services during the year. The motion was carried by acclamation, Mr Kennedy returning thanks for the support accorded him. The chairman’s honorarium was fixed at £2OO on the motion of Messrs Angland and South.
