She loved the girls and boys, who were tended as the flowers in her spiritual garden. On behalf of the parents and children he thanked Mrs White for her faithful services in this direction. The gift from the congregation to Mrs White and Miss Cleland took the form of a clock, and in presenting it Mr McNeur expressed the deep sorrow felt at the departure of two such faithful and useful members from their midst, and wished them both much joy in their new home. On behalf of her sister and herself Mrs White returned thanks for the gifts and the goodwill that prompted them. By the Rangitane on Saturday there sailed an interesting visitor to our shores. Miss F, H. A. Turner, of London, who is County Secretary for the British Red Cross. She is a great friend of Mrs St. Loe Strachey. the widow of the late editor of the London Spectator, with whom she has been associated in the Red Cross organisation in Surrey. Miss Turner has had some valuable suggestions to make to our Red Cross authorities here. Coming out on a visit to her sister. Mrs Turner-Williams, of Havelock North, she landed in Wellington the very day of the big 'quake. Hastening to her sister's home, she saw at first-hand and is full of praise for the splendid emergency work done by the Wellington Red Cross during those days of chaos. But what immediately struck her was what an asset to the Dominion would be V.A.D. organisations. ready for any such emergency At Home the Red Cross has made a big feature of these V.A.D. organisations, and now has them working regularly all over England. Hawke’s° Bay people are alive to the value of such V.A.D. organisations and movements are on foot to further this into practice. A division of Maori V.A D's is an interesting part of the scheme.
