MARCH WEATHER.

RAINFALL RECORDS. Records of rainfall taken in some parts of South Canterbury for March, 1931, compared with figures for the corresponding period last year are as follow: Mr H. W. Bishop, Lyalldale—Rain fell on eight days during the month, the heaviest fall being 60 points on March 30th. The total for the month was 2.30 inches. Mr G. L. Twentyman, Seadown—The total for the month was 2.09 inches. Rain fell on eleven days, the maximum fall being 71 points on March 30th. Mr Stewart Woofflndin, Pleasant Point—Eight rainy days were experienced during the month, the total rainfall being 2.08 inches. The heaviest fall, on any one day, was 1.19 inches on March 30th. Mr J. L. White, Winchester—2.o9 inches of rain were recorded on eight days at the Schoolhouse, Winchester, compared with 1.34 inches last March. The average March rainfall for the previous five years was 2.03 inches. The total fall for the year to date, was 6.34 inches (last year 10.12 Inches; average previous 5 years, 6.41 inches). The absolute maximum shade temperature for the month was 84 degrees (87); absolute minimum, 33 (38); average of maxima, 68.3 (68.2); average of minima, 46.6 (46.7); mean, 57.4 (57.4). Mr A. J. Blakiston, Orari Gorge— There were thirteen days with rain during March, the maximum fall being 89 points on March 26th. The total for the month was 2.92 inches, compared with 1.80 inches for March of last year. The total fall for the past three months was 10.60 inches, as against 16.97 inches for the corresponding period last year. Mr J. O. H. Tripp, "Glen Cary,” Hakataramea —The rainfall for March totalled 1.26 inches, the heaviest falls (31 points) occurring on March 7th, and March 30th. The corresponding month last year yielded only 12 points.
