UNEMPLOYMENT.
RELIEF MEASURES IN DUNEDIN. By -erapn— Pres* AssorDUNEDIN. April 14. As a result of a meeting between a deputation of unemployed and the Hospital Board this afternoon, it was decided to grant immediate relief to 30 necessitous cases. The City Council will further consider the position to-morrow night, and the Hospital Board also will take steps
at a meeting on Thursday to see what can be done to relieve the position. Mr P. H. Petrie, the chief speaker on behalf of the unemployed, said he represented 3000 people, not including wives and dependents. He also remarked that men would be far better in gaol, because they had been assured by the relief officer of the Hospital Board that the Board’s chief work was affording relief to wives and dependents to those men who had been sentenced to imprisonment.
