FOREST FIRES.

WIDE AREA SWEPT IN U.S.A. United Press Association—By Electrla Tel egrapn—Copyrlgb t (Received April 14. 7 p.m.) NEW YORK, April 13. A Wisconsin rapids message says that forest fires are ranging over such a wide area in that neighbourhood that they have already destroyed thousands of acres of timber and done great property damage. Several small towns have already been destroyed, and others are threatening. Fires are burning at so many points that it has become extremely difficult to control any of them, due to inability to concentrate the efforts to extinguish them at any one point. The residents in each district have been compelled to face their own fires and disregard calls for aid from neighbouring towns. At Menominee (Michigan) forest fires wiped out one town in the district, and caused losses totalling at least three million dollars already. The fires are continuing out of control over a considerable area.
