GERALDINE.
UNEMPLOYMENT MATTERS. Owing to the fact that the Unemployment Board's No. 5 Scheme has been withdrawn for a fortnight, the Geraldine County Council decided at its meeting yesterday to grant the sum of £so—£2B in the Temuka Riding and £22 in the Geraldine Riding—for the relief of the most necessitous cases, the work to be restricted to married men within these ridings, and the payment to go on the scale of unemployment relief wages. Mr C. E. Bremner, the Board’s engineer, was appointed to take charge of the matter. It is understood that at to-night’s meeting of the Geraldine Borough Council, the subject will be discussed as it affects the Borough, and probably relief will be provided for the most necessitous cases. MAGISTRATE’S COURT. A short sitting of the Geraldine Magistrate’s Court was held yesterday before Mr C. R. Orr-Walker, S.M. Judgment by default was given in the case of W. T. Mole (Mr L. M. Inglis) v. John Blgham, claim for £2/19/3, costs £l/18/-. No order was made in a judgment summons case, Springs-Ellesmere Electric Power Board (Mr A. P. Bark lie) v. A. L. Moray. A rollicking comedy, “The Shannons of Broadway,” will be screened at the Geraldine Municipal Theatre to-night. “The Shannons of Broadway” broke all records at the Martin Beck Theatre in New York, when it ran for thirty-nine weeks. For more than two years it has been playing constantly. It has been described as the perfect comedy with the perfect comedy team, which includes Mary Philbin, as “Tessie,” the little New England village girl, John Breeden, who played the role of the boy when the "Shannons” was produced in Los Angeles. Supports include a British Gazette, cartoon, and comedy.
