LEVEL CROSSING SMASH.

MOTOR-CAB WRECKED. By Telegraph—Press Association WOODVILLE, April 13. A miraculous escape from death occurred at a railway crossing between Woodville and Manawatu Gorge on Saturday evening, when a Chrysler sedan motor, driven by Mr A. J. Bierre, manager of the Fletcher Construction Company, of Wellington, who was returning from Hastings with a companion named Mr Noel Burnett, was caught by a railway engine from Palmerston North. The car was carried some distance along the track and badly wrecked. Mr Bierre sustained injuries to the head, which necessitated seven stitches being inserted, and Mr Burnett also suffered wounds on the head and shock. After being medically treated both injured men were taken in a private car to Palmerston North.
