WAIHI v. HINDS. A friendly game between the Waihi . and Hinds Clubs was played on the j Winchester ground on Saturday after- i noon. The Hinds team arrived two j men short, and F. Sherratt, and J. 1 Hewson, of the Waihi Club, played for | the visitors. Hood kicked off for Hinds. From a , scrum at half-way Earl secured and j sent O. Quirke, Higinbottom and Wood j away. Good tackling by Hood and 1 Keenan and a liner by Richards re- I turned play to midfield. D. and J. Callanan, Stewart and Opie worked the play to Hinds’ line, where Hood took a clever mark, and booted the ball out past halfway. Townley, W. South and D. Callanan. with a good rally, took play inside the Hinds’ 25. Holland replied with a hefty kick up the field. A forward movement by Dell, Husband and Low placed Waihi on the defensive, Turner (full back) eventually relieving with a beautiful liner to Hinds’ 25. Earl, securing from a scrum near midfield, sent Quirke. Higinbottom and Patrick away. Patrick raced over the line at the corner. Turner’s kick failed to find the uprights. Waihi 3, Hinds 0. From the kick out, Johns, Sherratt, and Low headed a movement down the field. ' but a long kick by Turner soon had j the visitors on the defensive. J. and j D. On resuming. D. Callanan and G. South soon had the visitors busy defending, Hood eventually relieving with a magnificent kick to Waihi’s 25. Palmer. J. Callanan and Opie headed a rush to Hinds 25. where Earl secured and sent Wood away, the rush culminating in a try at the corner. Turner’s kick went astray. Waihi 14, Hinds 0. Bad fumbling among the Hinds backs kept the play near their line. Earl started Quirke away, but nis pars io Higinbottom was dropped. Shortly after, Opip picked up smartly and went over lor a try for Turner to convert. Waihi 19, Hinds 0. From a scrum at halfway, Earl sent a long pass to Quirke, who raced over the line. J. South who was thrown out when near the line. At the halfway flag, D. Callanan sent the ball out to Quirke. who showed a fine turn of speed to score at the corner.
