NEW ZEALAND TEAM’S PROSPECTS. United Press Association—By EJectrlo Telegraph—Copyrlgl** LONDON, April 5. Mr H. D. Swan, on arrival at Southampton by the Ruahine, said he was glad the New Zealand cricket tour had not fallen through, otherwise Britain might have taken an exaggerated view of the earthquake havoc. The team was strong in batting and fielding, but the bowling was an unknown quantity. As there was no fast bowler of outstanding merit, they must rely on the spin bowlers. The team was exceptionally young. CELTIC V. CHRISTIAN BROTHERS. DRAWN GAME RESULTS. A draw was the result of the match between Celtic seniors and Christian Brothers Old Boys (Dunedin), which was commenced at Anzac Square on Saturday and continued yesterday. In their first innings on Saturday, Celtic made 120 and when stumps were drawn for the day, the visitors had two wickets down for 27 runs. Continuing their innings yesterday, Christian Brothers brought their total to 113, due mainly to a good score of 5S by Twomey, one of the opening batsmen. _ . . Celtic declared their second mnings closed when four wickets were down for 173, the chief contributor being S. D. Mason, who gave a sound display, and retired when his total stood at 92 The visitors had 79 on the board for the loss of five wickets when time was called. Detailed scores are:— CELTIC.
