The City Central Progress League and the Auckland proprietors have formed a- joint committee, and the City Council learned of the scheme when a letter was received stating that strong support was being given by other local bodies. Civic recognition of the movement, which would absorb a number of unemployed for the week, was asked. The theatres had undertaken to provide employment for a number of extra men in casual work, and a number of others would be absorbed in casual work by shopkeepers. The Mayor, Mr G. Baildon, said that a number of prominent business men were interested in the scheme, and had waited on him that day.
