FIRES.

HOTEL BURNED. By Telegraph—Press Association DANNEVIRKE, March 23. A fire in the centre of Ormondville early this morning destroyed the Settlers’ Arms Hotel, a two-storey wooden building of 17 rooms. It was owned by the Napier Brewery Co., and occupied by Mr W. Senk, the licensee. The fire also destroyed a bootshop, owned by Mr W. H. Edkins, and occupied by Mr J. H. Jackson, boot repairer; and the Public Library; also Mrs Adamson’s bakehouse. HOUSE DESTROYED. By Telegraph—Press Association HASTINGS, March 23. A seven-roomed house, owned and occupied by Mrs T. Lawlor, Hastings, was totally destroyed by fire last evening. The cause of the outbreak is unknown. The house was insured for £IOO, and the furniture for £250. THREE HOUSES LOST. By Telegraph—Press Association NAPIER, March 23. Three houses at Westshore were totally destroyed by fire on Saturday evening. The houses were occupied by Messrs Millett, E. Aplin, and Martin. The absence of water was responsible for the spread of the flames. These buildings, before the big upheaval. were just across the road from the Inner Harbour, but since no water was near enough for the fire engine to be used successfuly.
