NEW ’VARSITY RECORD By Telegraph—Press Association DUNEDIN, March 22. The Otago University inter-faculty championships were held on Saturday. the Arts team winning the Thompson Cup for most points. Tne Barnett Cup for the competitor gaining most points was won jointly by ; R. O. Johnson and T. R. Buxton, both I Arts. , I The three miles race was won by IJ. J. Morris, in 15min 14 2-15 sec, breaking the previous ’Varsity record of 15min 39sec. METHODIST HARRIER CLUB. On Saturday afternoon the Methodist Harrier Club held a run from the residence of Mr F. Metson. a vicepresident of the Club. Twenty-five members participated in an eight-mile run over a course laid by C. Sutherland and W. Holmes, who provided one of ! the best trails members have ever ; followed. From Livingstone Street, the pack I proceeded down Avenue Road to I Canada Street, across paddocks to j Otipua Road, down the quarry line, ! and over ploughed and grass paddocks to Falrview Creek, across LandsI Borough Road, up Mathias’ Gully and Sherwin’s Gully to thick scrub. Here ; the runners struck two miles of severe ; going through bog. creeks, gorse, broom, and some rocky country, to i come out at the top of the LandsI borough Hill by Richard’s farm. The | trail then led across stubble land to more heavy going in Waldie’s Gully, across the creek several times (to the discomfort of the runners, who were deceived by the reeds and growths covering the water) to the Reservoir Plantation, then across Shaw’s paddocks and over the Quarry Bridge and home down Church Street. The trail covered a good eight miles, and included practically every type of land that a cross-country runner will And. j Although at times the going was hard, everyone enjoyed themselves thoroughly. The results were:— Fast Pack. S. Hurdley and R. Lund (equal) , 1 R, Vincent 3 Slow Pack. Hugh Currie 1 W. Stirling 2 W. Chiles 3 N. Rose 4 After the run members were given r , oath, and then entertained to ifternoon tea by Mr and Mrs F. Metson. R ii.d (club captain) returned (harms to the host and hostess for heir Kindness and for their continued support to the Club. Cheers were given for Mr and Mrs Metson and the mdies who assisted. Mr Metson, replying, said it gave him great pleasure to entertain the Cjuß. He congratulated them on their hne attendance, and wished them every success in the coming season. The Club will not hold another run until 11th April.
