FINANCE FOR FARMERS.
NATIONALIST PARTY’S PROPOSAL. United Press Association—By Xlectrla Telegraph—Copyright MELBOURNE, March 11. Instead of the Commonwealth Government’s proposed fiduciary note issue, the Federal Opposition leader, Mr J. G. Latham, anonunced his scheme for meeting the urgent demands of farmers. This entails taking the task out of the hands of the Government, and raising non-Government finance for farm relief, which would be controlled by a suitable representative body. Under the scheme advances would be made on a selective basis to farmers to put in and take off their crops, and to provide maintenance as required. It is believed that there is sufficient spare money kept in Australia to finance such a scheme, provided it had a proper backing, and Mr Latham said he had already had favourable dealing! with the banks.
