NEW ZEALANDER COMMANDS VOLUNTEER CORPS. United Press Association—By Klectrlo Telegraph—Copyright (Received March 11, 12.50 a.m.) SHANGHAI, March 10. Lieutenant-Colonel Thoms, cjf the New Zealand Staff Corps arrived today, to take over the command of the Shanghai Volunteer Corps, vice Brigadier Orpen Palmer retired. The new commandant controls the most extraordinary volunteer force in the world, consisting of British, Russian, American and Chinese companies. The force is supported by the Municipal Council to the extent of £40,000 per annum. This is the first occasion the command has been given to a colonial officer.
