TIMARU ELECTRICAL AREA.
MATTER OF CONTROL. MOTION BY MR DASH. The question of giving the Timavu Borough Council control of the entire \rea embraced by the Borough in the natter of electricity supply is to be onsidered by the South Canterbury Power Board in the near future. At yesterday's meeting of the Board a notice of motion having this intention was tabled by Mr G. Dash. The wording of the motion is as follows: “That whereas the Borough of Timaru has expanded and taken in territory at present held for electrical supply purposes by this Board, a committee be set up to report to this Board on the possibility of an agreement that might be financially satisfactory to this Board and give to the Borough of Timaru control over the whole of the Borough for electrical supply purposes. The committee to consist of the three members of this Board elected by Timaru, together with the chairman of the Board and the mover, and to have its first meeting after the sixth of May next.”
Speaking with reference to this matter, Mr Dash said he had been on the Board six months without hearing one word from a Ttmaru member concerning the interests of Timaru. “I hope that after May 6th next we may have in place of the Mayor of Timaru, a member not so overloaded with work as to make it unfair to ask him to carry this burden of Board membership, and in place of the other two members I hope for men who will not subordinate themselves to the overlordship of the engineer, and will be men of independant thought and action.” On the suggestion of Mr W. Angland, Mr Dash agreed to add the Borough engineer and the Board’s engineer to the committee he suggests shall be set up.
