PARLIAMENT IN SESSION.
Fate of Education Bill. LORD -ARNOLD RESIGNS. British Official Wireless (Received March 6. 5.5 p.m.) RUGBY, March 5. Mr H. B. Lees-Smith, Sir Charles Trevelyan’s successor, at the Board of Education stated to-day that it is the intention of the Government to reintroduce the Bill for the raising of the school leaving age, in order that it shall be passed into law under the Parliament Act. This Act provides that a Bill receiving the assent of the House of Commons, in three successive sessions, in two years, becomes law. without the assent of the House of Lords. Ministerial Positions. Owing to ill-health Lord Arnold has resigned the office of Paymaster-Gen-eral. This office, which is unpaid, is not of Cabinet rank. The King has approved that Mr James Brown, M.P., be appointed Lord High Commissioner to the General Assembly of the Church of Scotland. Mr Brown, who was a working miner till he entered Parliament and has been a life-long Churchman, held the same office under the first Labour Government and again last year.
