FLOWER SHOW.
PRESIDENT'S CLOSING SPEECH. The second and final session of the Timaru Morticulturai Society’s autumn ; show was held in Caroline Bay Hall yesterday afternoon and evening, when again there was marked interest shown by the public. At the evening session, at which there was a large attendance, the president of the Society (Mr W. J. Hogg), in officially closing the Show, said that this had been the third fixture during the Society’s jubilee year, and there was no doubt that it had been a success. He thanked exhibitors for their entries, the judges for their work, and the general public for their interest. While he could not give any indication of the financial part of the show, the support accorded had been very gratifying to the committee. The president then called on Mrs L. S. Talbot, winner of the section for six hardy cut flowers, to step forward and accept the cup provided in this section. He congratulated the winner on her success and the high standard of the exhibit. The fact that Mrs Talbot had won the cup last year, said Mr Hogg, was evidence of her interest in horticulture. (Applause). The president said that the final show of the jubilee year would be held in May, when it was hoped that it would be a fitting co2iclusion to the celebrations. He appealed to exhibitors and the public to continue their support, and assured them that the Society would do all within their !X)wer to maintain the very high .standard set by previous efforts. He said that exhibits had already been promised from as far away as Dunedin and Christchui-ch, while a special attraction, it was hoped, would be an exhibition of Dunedin seedlings. The president then declared the autumn show closed. (Applause).
