TEMUKA.
"A GEM OF SOUTH CANTERBURY.” Under the above heading, two full pages setting out the potentialities of Temuka as a holiday resort and a business centre, anpear in the February issue of the ‘‘Railways Magazine.” The material for the article, which makes quite a pleasing show, with a picture of King Street, was forwarded for publication by a gentleman appointed by the Temuka Progress League. The first paragraph reads in part: “A gem set in the midst of four beautiful streams the angler’s delight, the camper’s holiday resort, the ideal rest place after the strenuous work of the year . . .” The article goes on to describe the Domain, enumerates the joys of a fishing visit, and sets out the facilities available at the new motor camp in the Domain. In conclusion six reasons are given why people should select Temuka for their next holiday. Generally, the article shows signs of much thought on the part of “C.W.,” to whom it is attributed. TENNIS. The Park team to play Geraldine at Temuka to-day, at 1.30 sharp is as follows: Ladies—Misses Poultney, Pearse (2), Dwan. Hannifin, Mrs Dick. Men—Pearse, R. Lee, L. Connolly, Macfarlane, Salmon, Grant. FOR FISHEMEN. The week-end should see favourable conditions for fishing, as far as South Canterbury rivers are concerned. The Opihi, Temuka, Ohape, and Rangitata are all in good order for flyfishing. The Opihi mouth was blocked for a few days, but was attended to yesterday. In the past fishermen i seem to have had to do most of the J work in cleaning the mouth, and it was thought that the Acclimatisation Society might pay periodical visits there. Yesterday, the ranger (Mr F. W. Pellett) and his assistant (Mr Oliver), gave appreciated assistance in clearing away the silt. The Rangitata is carrying the biggest volume of water, and is now quite clear. A few catches are reported. One enthusiast hooked a salmon in the Rangitata on Thursday, and a small one was taken from the Opihi. In the Opihi on Thursday night catches of three, four, seven and nine trout took place, all on the fly. On Thursday night one salmon was landed in the Rangitata, and one yesterday morning. Two Timaru fishermen landed four salmon in the Rangitata yesterday morning up to 201bs. The best catch reported, however, was a 381 b salmon, in the Rangitata, on Thursday.

NOTES. The Temuka Borough Council has issued an appeal for gifts of vegetables /or the earthquake area. SATURDAY’S TALKIES. An excellent all-talking programme will be submitted at Temuka this afternoon and evening, when the great air film “Flight” will be screened. The leading players are Jack Holt, Raff Graves and Lila Lee. Acting standard is excellent, with Jack Holt taking first honours in this department. He makes his character, as a hard-boiled flying instructor a neat piece of delineation. He talks, acts, chews tobacco and makes clumsy excursions into the realms of romance with successes and failure expected of a real man. Ralph Graves, who is credited with the authorship of the story, ropes in a share of the plaudits, and Lila Lee shows up splendidly. A matinee screening will commence at 2.15 p.m.
